If you have been following us for the last few months you have noticed our trend to being more environmentally friendly and going green. The Inn on Lake Superior has installed the Green Team!
The Inn began last summer by going chemical free with their lawn. Working with the Environmental Association for Great Lakes Education Safe Lawn and Garden Campaign, the Inn used worm juice, a by-product of composting with red wriggler worms. We follow up our lawn care by also directing rain water through the gutters to water our gardens wherever possible.
We buy recycled paper products and in bulk where we can. We also buy locally as much as possible to avoid additional emissions into the air. All of our lights have been changed to the energy efficient CFL bulbs.
We announced in February 2008 that we will no longer be using styrofoam products during breakfast. We use real plates, bowls and silverware.
In the coming months we are working to put in a full recycling program as well as other environmentally friendly products and programs. |
