Ten Tips for Summer Success in Duluth

Is this your first time to Duluth? Are you an experienced North Shore traveler? Regardless of your familiarity, we want you to enjoy our city as much as we do! Following these suggestions will help you make the most of your trip and make memories for years to come.

  1. Book Early

It’s no doubt that Summer is the most beautiful time of year in Duluth, and rooms go fast! Don’t wait until the week before your trip or you might be out of luck. Even if your plans change, we have a generous cancellation policy, so we are more than happy to help with alternative dates.  Don’t forget about Bentleyville Tour of Lights in the Winter—rooms are already booking for November and December.

  1. Eat

Duluth has so many local restaurants—there are too many to choose from! Our favorites are OMC-Smokehouse, Canal Park Brewing Company, and Vitta Pizza. If you have a sweet tooth, Jacq Frost, a frozen yogurt bar, is right across the street. Don’t forget about the Portland Malt Shop, near the Fitger’s Complex. They have old-fashioned treats mastered to perfection.

  1. Visit Our Concierge

Are you interested in taking a ride on the Vista Fleet or touring the Glensheen Mansion? Want to ride complimentary bicycles or have a question about the area? Our concierge staff can help you with purchasing discounted attraction tickets and more!

  1. Venture across the Bridge

All of the attention goes to Duluth, but did you know there are lots of things to do in Superior? Right across the Blatnik Bridge off of Highway 2 is Wisconsin Point. It’s the counterpart to Minnesota’s Park Point, but it is much less populated, equally sandy, and bonfires are allowed here as long as there is not a burn ban.

  1. Try Something New

Many local attractions are time-tested favorites for good reason. However, there is never a shortage of new experiences to try, even for the locals who have lived here for years. The Duluth Experience offers brewery tours, kayak tours, history tours, and more. They are certain to show you a side of Duluth you’ve yet to see.

  1. Shop Local

Who comes to Duluth without leaving with a souvenir? Instead of the generic magnet or keychain, check out Hucklebeary on Superior Street. This new shop has tons of cute cards, gifts, and décor and you can even take classes here. Or, try Flagship, a brand new clothing shop one block away. They partner with local artists for the designs and do screen printing demonstrations on site.

  1. Unplug

Canal Park offers many great benches, lawns, and climbing rocks all of which are far from any charging outlet. And, that’s a good thing. Posting your adventure on Facebook or Instragram can be beneficial for family and friends, but remember to put your device down from time to time. Take in Lake Superior, let it make you feel really small, and enjoy time disconnected.

  1. Relax

Reserve one of our Lake Side rooms and enjoy the beautiful sunrise from your own private balcony. Take a dip in our heated rooftop pool, or play a game of bean bag toss in our back yard. Looking for more? Check out Eagle’s Nest Massage Therapy. They have a range of options from 30 minutes to 90 minutes and offer many specialty sessions.

  1. Check the Weather

Duluth’s weather can change within minutes so be sure to pack accordingly. It can even change depending on your location in Canal Park or up on the hill by the Miller Hill Mall. Pay attention to tide warnings by visiting ParkPointBeach.org for swimming safety. Also, you can visit HarborLookout.com for the daily ship schedule. If you need any of this information during your stay, just ask!

  1. Come back again!

There is so much to do in Duluth, one can’t possibly experience it all in one trip. Visit us again during different seasons of the year when there are all new sights like the leaves changing color and the angry waves of November storms.

We wish you were here!
